Law Offices of Delaney and Murphy, P.C. – A Family Affair

In a sylvan setting beside a vintage Skillman farmhouse, the law offices of Delaney and Murphy, P.C. sit in a petite carriage house facing a small pond where visitors include geese, ducks, and an occasional blue heron. Inside, the relaxed atmosphere complements their pastoral setting. Between them, husband and wife Edward C. Delaney, Esq. and Tara A. Murphy, Esq. have over 50 years of experience and are down-to-earth and affable. But while the office may feel comfortable and informal, the legal services provided by these long-time Montgomery residents are professional and top-notch.
"We treat our clients as we would like to be treated ourselves," they say.
Delaney and Murphy P.C. is a general practice firm with an emphasis on real estate, family law, municipal court, and wills and estates. Their real estate practice encompasses all aspects of real estate, including purchases, sales, short sales, deed transfers, foreclosures, title searches, partition and refinancing. The family law area includes separation, divorce, custody issues, equitable distribution, child support, emancipation, alimony, property settlement agreements, and pre-nuptial agreements. The firm also represents clients in municipal court appearances and criminal matters including traffic violations, misdemeanors, and expunging criminal records. They also help clients with estate planning matters, including drafting of wills, durable general powers of attorney, living wills and disputes between beneficiaries and/or beneficiaries and executors or trustees.
"With 30 years of experience and thousands of real estate transactions," says Delaney, "I can negotiate through any problem to achieve the solution sought by our clients."
The two attorneys not only have a long relationship with each other (they’ve been together for more than 30 years), as long-time Montgomery residents, they also enjoy a strong relationship with the Township both professionally and personally. Their son, now a third-year college student, went through Montgomery schools.
"We love the Township and this community," explains Delaney. The pair represents several local organizations, as well as employees at many local businesses including Bloomberg, J & J, and Novo Nordisk. Their practice and experience goes beyond the local Montgomery community and into Middlesex, Somerset, and Mercer Counties, as well. They each have their own distinct style that works well with each other and for their clients.
Delaney’s philosophy is to present the legal options to his clients in plain English, which allows them to then make an informed and educated decision for themselves. This approach allows for collaboration between attorney and client and has resulted in a loyal and trusting long-term clientele.
"Having been in the business for so long," he says, "we’re now representing the children of our clients."
Murphy's philosophy is to resolve legal disputes as quickly and cleanly as possible. She believes legal matters should not be needlessly drawn out, resulting in increased legal fees, but instead should be resolved, to the benefit of her clients, at the minimum cost possible.
"We take a practical approach and try to keep our clients out of the legal mire," she explains.
